Don't click any links or attachments you receive via text or email unless they’re coming from a source you know and trust. Create strong, unique passwords for all your accounts. Better yet, use a password manager, multifactor authentication (MFA) or passkeys whenever they're available. Install antivirus software on all your devices and keep it up to date. Be sure to install operating system updates as soon as they're available, too. Avoid using unsecured public Wi-Fi whenever possible. If you do connect to public networks, don't access sensitive information, such as your bank account, or enter payment information. Review the permissions you grant to apps on your devices. Only allow access to information – such as your location, photos or contacts – when necessary. Avoid charging your device using unfamiliar USB charging ports, such as those in airports or other public places. Use your own charger plugged into a standard electrical outlet whenever possible. If you believe someone is using your personal information, report it right away at IdentityTheft.gov and follow the recommended recovery steps.
